Leopold “Leo” Chenal, a linebacker with the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs, was born on October 26, 2000. (NFL). At Wisconsin, he played collegiate football.
Chenal was born and raised in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, and went to Grantsburg High School where he played linebacker and running back. With 226 receiving yards and three touchdowns, Chenal rushed for 2,038 yards and 42 scores as a senior. On defense, he made 120 tackles and seven tackles for loss.
The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association honored him as both the small-school Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, and the state Gatorade Football Player of the Year. With 3,706 rushing yards and 68 touchdowns, 1,300 receiving yards and 17 touchdown receptions, and 385 tackles, 55 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and three interceptions on defense, Chenal concluded his high school career with impressive numbers.
Chenal was an early enrollee for the Wisconsin Badgers. During his freshman season, he appeared in 11 games and recorded 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack. He was named honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference as a sophomore after recording 46 tackles, six tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception in seven games during Wisconsin’s COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. As a junior, Chenal was named Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year and first-team All-Big Ten.
