His parents Oscar Alphonse Van Impe and Marie Louise, née Piot, immigrated from Belgium to the city of Troy, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, in the United States in 1929. The reason for Van Impe’s decision to become an evangelist was because his father was a very strong faith missionary. Van Impe and his father Oscar at night clubs played the accordion, and Oscar regularly swore and drank alcohol, believing religion was hogwash.
Along with his father, Van Impe would drink alcoholic beverages after meals. Then when Van Impe was twelve years old, Oscar converted to evangelical Christianity, and all their bottles of alcoholic beverages were smashed together by Oscar and Jack Van Impe, and since then Van Impe has not drunk any alcohol.
