Harold Ramis was born on November 21, 1944 in Chicago Illinois. He got his start in television on the sketch series “SCTV”, where he was the original head writer and an actor. After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis in 1966, he worked at a mental institution for seven months. He also worked as a substitute teacher as he moonlighted as a freelance comedy writer and aspiring sketch comedian. He eventually was hired as the joke editor for Playboy Magazine. Harold found a home with the sketch group SCTV where he would soon work with future stars like John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner and Christopher Guest. He wrote a spec script for the comedy magazine National Lampoon which was eventually turned into “Animal House”. “Animal House” was produced on a shoestring budget and went on to earn more than $140 million at the box office, enough to make it one of the most profitable movies of all time.
